It is 10 km from lake Ohrid connected with canals which have limestone bottom, and because of its location at 150 m altitude, its water goes into lake Ohrid. The famous Biljana’s springs is the place where Lake Prespa goes out of the mountain Galichica and flows into Lake Ohrid.

There are two uninhabited islands in the lake Golema Prespa: Golem Grad (Big Town) in Macedonia and Mal Grad in Albania. As natural rarity, it has been an attraction since Roman period. Golem Grad represents an archaeological site with settlement’s remains, churches and necropolises and there is a rare reservation where some rare agarics reproduce themselves. Besides, some fruitful plants (plum tree, black mulberry, cornel tree, rose-hip, climbing vine) on the island and fig trees, too.      The pelican as one of the biggest birds that live on water, mainly live in warmer regions and it is present only on Lake Prespa in our country. Every year a flock of a hundred birds stay for six months (from 15 April to 15 October). The other part they spend it in warmer regions of the globe. During autumn moving, pelicans gather themselves into flocks and after a day circling in Prespa Valley they head to their destination. Pelicans do not dive; they only swim on water surface. It is an unusual sight to see how they hunt. Its powerful instinct detects fish shoals and as soon it gets to the target locks of cormorants come immediately after it chasing fish by diving and making symbiosis of shared food. Swans come on Lake Prespa for the last three decades, but they didn’t use to visit this lake previously. Flocks of four or eight swans come in spring or autumn and they stay for two or three months. Comparing to pelicans, swans can be tamed mostly by feeding.
